Alabama National Cemetery

The Alabama National Cemetery Phase 1B project was a design-bid-build National Cemetery expansion project that was completed in 2011 for the Department of Veterans Affairs for a cost of $12.5 million. Site construction included the clearing and grubbing of 90 acres, moving approximately 1,000,000 cubic yards of dirt, box culverts, storm systems, irrigation system, pump stations, sanitary sewer pump station, pond construction complete with pond liner, utilities, and over 2 miles of roadways.

Building construction included a Public Information Center / Administration Building, Two Committal Shelters, Maintenance Facility, Materials Storage Shed, Irrigation Pump Station Building, Columbarium Structure including 2,700 precast niche banks, Memorial Wall, and Entrance Wall / Structure. Unique features of these structures / buildings included: copper roofs, brick veneer, limestone veneer / wall caps / sills / headers / flooring, marble flooring / plaques / markers, reclaimed wood flooring / doors, and steel windows / doors.
