C&C Contractors has done many jobs at Ft. Benning including The Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperations (WHINSEC) Renovations, the Px Slope Failure Repair, and the Smith Gym Renovation.
The Fort Benning WHINSEC (Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Corporation) Renovation project was constructed for the DOD in 2014 for $16.0 million. This project included the renovation and conversion of Fort Benning’s original five-story hospital structure to a teaching and planning facility.
Construction included asbestos / lead paint abatement, demolition, structural alterations, and structural modifications to limit progressive collapse, installation of new blast-resistant windows, new internal/external stairways to conform to current life safety codes, historic clay roof tile removal and replacement, new HVAC system complete with boiler and chillers, power, lighting systems, communication and data networks, audio / visual equipment, entry control system, intrusion detection system, fire alarm / mass notification system, elevator, plumbing, interior finishes, historic stucco repairs, demountable partitions, and landscape.
The Fort Benning PX Slope Failure Repairs project provided emergency shoring and extensive geotechnical investigation to mitigate a large-scale landslide threatening Building 9220 at Fort Benning GA. This emergency project was constructed for the USACE for $1,221,550. The project included a 400’ long x 15’ high emergency shotcrete and soil nail retaining wall along the failing side of the Fort Benning PX.
During construction, C&C took eighty borings, installed several inclinometers, and conducted extensive laboratory testing to both determine the cause of the failure and propose a permanent stabilization solution that would be within the Government’s budget. C&C completed this work several weeks early and designed a permanent solution that came in approximately $1,000,000 under an anticipated budget. The client was so pleased with the initial work and the success in undercutting the budget that a contract for the permanent solution was promptly awarded and C&C received an exceptional performance evaluation on the project.
