The National Cemetery of the Alleghenies Phase 3 Expansion project is being constructed for the Department of Veterans Affairs for a cost of $24.0 million. The project is scheduled to be completed in the Fall of 2022. The project includes the development of approximately 20 acres of undeveloped land to provide approximately 12,300 gravesites, including both casket and cremation sites in new burial sections.
This project also requires the construction of an overpass to connect the existing cemetery to future lands. Nominal repairs/improvements/security enhancements are also being constructed at existing cemetery buildings. In addition, the project requires unsuitable rock/coal to be excavated from burial areas and removed from the cemetery. This project also includes retrofitting and incorporating Guiding Principles for High Performance and Sustainable Buildings MOU and Renewable Energy Initiatives into existing and new systems and facilities.
